Today we had the option of having a free day in Edinburgh or taking an excursion out to St. Andrew’s by the Sea. Six people stayed back and 26 of us went to St. Andrews. It was a beautiful, clear day so we had another lovely drive through the countryside.
It is usually quite windy at St. Andrews because it is beside the North Sea. Today we were so lucky to have a fairly calm, sunny and warm day, our nicest day yet!! We started out with free time to visit the Old Golf Course of St. Andrews, the oldest Golf Course in the world. Unfortunately, it is VERY difficult to get a booking to golf there (not to mention VERY expensive) so we had to be content with just looking!!
The village of St. Andrews is very quaint. We had lots of time to explore, shop and have lunch. We also had a walking tour with a local guide. He took us to various parts of the St. Andrews University and to the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral, the largest and most important church in medieval Scotland.
We regrouped at 3:00 to head back to Edinburgh. We had a little over an hour to relax at the hotel before heading out for our group dinner. We had dinner in a lovely restaurant right next to the castle. We all said our goodbyes to Wendy and Fran as they are leaving us tomorrow morning.
